300m Shooting Range
Case Study: 300-Meter Tactical Shooting Range for the U.S. Department of Defense, Iraq
In line with Top Way’s ongoing support for U.S. military operations in Iraq, we successfully delivered a fully equipped, 300-meter tactical shooting range for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). This facility was designed to meet strict military training requirements and constructed under full compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers standards, offering a controlled and secure environment for live-fire training and weapons qualification exercises.
Project Overview
The objective of the project was to establish a dedicated, safe, and durable firing range that allows for individual and team-based weapons training, applicable to both primary and advanced qualification levels.
Top Way was entrusted with end-to-end delivery, from design and engineering to construction and site commissioning. The range is now operational and actively supports ongoing mission-readiness programs for deployed U.S. personnel.
Scope of Work
Earthworks & Grading
Complete leveling and stabilization of terrain to create uniform shooting lanes and safety zones.Shooting Lanes & Target Zones
Construction of clearly marked 300-meter lanes, with steel and paper target systems at varying distances to simulate real combat scenarios.Ballistic Safety Berms
Installation of high-capacity impact berms built from compacted soil and protective barriers, designed to safely stop and absorb live ammunition.Firing Line Infrastructure
Concrete-fortified firing line shelters, inclusive of reinforced overhead cover and dividers to protect shooters and instructors.Observation & Control Posts
Elevated range control towers for live monitoring and command of all firing activity, with direct line of sight to all zones.Perimeter Security
Full fencing, entry control points, and signage installed to regulate access and ensure compliance with safety protocols.Drainage and Environmental Controls
Engineering of proper runoff and stormwater management systems to maintain terrain usability in varying conditions.
Self-Performed by Top Way
Top Way executed the entire project with internal resources, including:
Design & Engineering Teams for technical compliance and layout optimization
Construction Crews for all civil works and infrastructure installation
Project Management certified in defense and high-security environments
Safety Officers ensuring strict adherence to live-fire range construction protocols
This in-house execution allowed for tight control over timelines, quality standards, and integration with existing DoD facilities on-site.
Delivered Capabilities
✔ 300-meter live-fire range built to NATO and DoD standards
✔ Modular target areas for different weapon types (M4, M16, sidearms, etc.)
✔ Full compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specs
✔ Built-in scalability for future expansion or conversion
✔ Constructed in a high-security zone under active military coordination
✔ Safety-certified and handed over with operational training manuals
Strategic Value
The completed range serves as a mission-critical training asset, allowing U.S. forces to maintain combat readiness, conduct ongoing qualifications, and train personnel in a controlled, replicable combat simulation environment.
The facility is now integrated into the base’s operational training schedule and has eliminated the need for off-site training deployments, saving cost, time, and security risk.
